Spotted by the darkening of the tooth color, which occurs due to the rotting of the pulp (inner layer of tooth)
Causes:
- Tooth decay.
- Accidents or trauma.
- Deep dental fillings.
- Gum disease.
- Tumors
Prognosis:
- Tooth gradually becomes weaker and may fracture.
- Bacteria and rotting tissues inside the tooth may infect surrounding jawbones, resulting in abscess or cyst formation (common in patients with low immunity).
- If the dead tooth shows no symptoms, a cyst may form and continue to grow without the patient knowing. Adjacent teeth may die due to the pressure exerted by the cyst on them.
