Dead Tooth

Spotted by the darkening of the tooth color, which occurs due to the rotting of the pulp (inner layer of tooth)

Causes:

  • Tooth decay.
  • Accidents or trauma.
  • Deep dental fillings.
  • Gum disease.
  • Tumors

Prognosis:

  • Tooth gradually becomes weaker and may fracture.
  • Bacteria and rotting tissues inside the tooth may infect surrounding jawbones, resulting in abscess or cyst formation (common in patients with low immunity).
  • If the dead tooth shows no symptoms, a cyst may form and continue to grow without the patient knowing. Adjacent teeth may die due to the pressure exerted by the cyst on them.
